Bond Election News Proposition A totals $64,190,000 and includes construction of middle school No. 2. Due to the continued growth, Aledo Middle is approaching its capacity with almost 900 students enrolled in 7th-8th grades for the 2017-2018 school year.

Proposition A also includes the repurposing of McAnally Intermediate School. This campus would be converted to an elementary with the allotted bond dollars. Future district plans include adding 6th grade to the middle schools with 7th-8th grades.

The addition of McAnally as an elementary would include the closing of Vandagriff Elementary, the oldest campus in Aledo ISD. The district is examining other public-use possibilities of Vandagriff.

Proposition B of $8,760,000 includes additions at Aledo High School for Career Technical Education. The proposal focuses on agricultural facility additions and renovations. This includes adding 10,000 square feet of space for an additional large animal barn. The agricultural program has grown significantly in student participation and staffing.

Proposition B also includes $3 million for the purchase of land for future campus sites.
The district’s last bond election was in 2015 when voters approved a $53.2 million bond, which included the construction of Walsh Elementary School. The Walsh campus opens Aug. 28, 2017.
Early voting for the Nov. 7 election begins Monday, Oct. 23. The Aledo ISD administration building will be one of the voting locations and open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the early voting period Monday, Oct. 23 to Friday, Nov. 3 (open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29).

The bond election was the culmination of a study done by the Bond Steering Committee during the summer of 2017. The committee held three meetings to review Aledo ISD facility planning along with demographic and financial reports. The committee presented its recommendation to the School Board on Aug. 3, 2017.

School officials will be providing Bond election facts during a series of presentations in the community during the fall leading up to Nov. 7. The listing of presentations and Town Hall meetings will be available soon.
